This study aimed to investigate the effects of information technology(IT) on depression among older adults. The questionnaire survey was conducted for older adults aged 60 and over who were going to seniors` welfare centers in Seoul. 617 cases were analyzed to verify the influences of IT use and satisfaction with IT use on depression using Structural Equation Modeling(SEM). The results from this study are as follows£ºFirst, the research model and measurement model showed satisfactory goodness of fit indices. Second, the effect of IT use on depression was not significant. Lastly, the negative effect of satisfaction with IT use on depression among older adults was significant, even when age, sex, education, and income were controlled for. That is, higher satisfaction with IT use was related to lower depression level among older users. Our findings suggest that not just IT use but subjective satisfaction with IT use can contribute to decrease the depression level in old age. This study provides empirical evidence for the need to expand IT use and informatization education of older adults by paying more attention to enhance subjective satisfaction with IT use than IT use itself.
